When you hire scuba gear, as the renter, you carry significant responsibility for keeping the equipment in good condition. It is crucial that you understand which costs may be charged to you and under what circumstances. Below is a clear outline of your duties concerning the maintenance, repair, and replacement of hired scuba gear.
As the renter, you are responsible for handling the hired scuba equipment carefully and protecting it from damage. Damage resulting from the renter's improper use or negligence, including incorrect maintenance, will be fully charged to the renter.
In the event of loss or complete damage to the scuba equipment, including the tank and weights, the renter is liable for the replacement costs. This also applies to damage to components resulting from negligence.
Theft:In the case of theft due to negligence (for example, leaving the equipment unattended), the renter is liable for the costs. In the event of theft, the renter must always be able to provide a proof of police report.
Lending Prohibited: It is strictly forbidden to rent or lend the hired scuba gear to third parties.
Repairs: All repairs or replacements of components resulting from damage caused by the renter's actions are at the renter's expense.
Specific Examples of Responsibility
An important example is the correct attachment of the dust cap to the first stage after disconnecting the cylinder valve. This prevents water or debris from entering the first stage. Costs for maintenance on the entire regulator set resulting from water infiltration are always the responsibility of the renter.
Failing to return the hired scuba gear on time will result in additional charges. These costs will be calculated based on the daily rate for the extended rental period and will be billed to the renter.
